SETTING FOCUS ON PLASTIC IN THE SEA WITH DESIGN

What matters

Did you know that by 2050, plastic in the oceans will outweigh fish?

This was predicted in 2017 by Ellen MacArthur Foundation, in partnership with the World Economic Forum.

Every year several million tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean. And while the talk is focused on plastic, we should really talk about people – what we do and the choices that we make.

In 2017 the United Nations Environmental Assembly launched a global campaign to eliminate plastic pollution in the ocean.

Several organizations and companies are doing an amazing work to raises awareness to and end the pollution of the oceans.

We admire the work and the initiatives done by Parley for the Oceans – this organization is a thought leader in ocean conversation.

They use eco innovation  and design collaborations to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of the oceans.

DESIGN AND RE-PURPOSING OF WASTE TO RAISE AWARENESS OF PLASTIC POLLUTION OF THE OCEANS

At FabGoose we wanted to inspire our retailers to use design and plastic waste with a striking window display idea.

Unfortunately, plastic waste is everywhere (even here in Scandinavia), so it didn’t take me long to gather some plastic during my walk around the local area. And two old garbage bags got a second life as a backdrop.

The whale blanket has a focal point in this window display idea. We thought that combining plastic waste with the Whale blanket will raise attention to how important is cleaning up of the ocean is for a better tomorrow.

The creative challenge in re-purposing of waste in product styling is something that we absolutely want to explore more of in the future.
